• Wirraway Mirrim was formed in June 2005 and was for a short time known as the Koori Research Network while the group found a more appropriate name. Wirraway Mirrim comes from the
Woi Wurung language group of the local Wurundjeri Nation and means to challenge (Wirraway) deeply (Mirrim). The Victorian Aboriginal Language Group researched potential names for the group. Permission was sought and given from the Wurundjeri Elder to use Wirraway Mirrim.
• The group was formed as there was a need for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have an opportunity to meet and support each other through the research journey
• The group has developed the following philosophies, values, principles and processes which are based on key components of respect, sharing, encouragement and learning.
• Guide students doing minor or major thesis’s for Masters degrees or PhD’s and any other aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research
